How it works

What a prediction market is

A prediction market lets you trade on the result of a future event. Each market asks a question with a clear answer, such as “Will BTC be above $100,000 on 31 December?” or “Who will win the match?”.

Every answer has its own shares. A simple market has two sides: usually Yes and No, or the two possible results, such as the two teams in a match. A market with several possible answers lists each one, and you can buy Yes or No on any of them.

Prices are probabilities

A share costs between 0¢ and 100¢. The price is the chance that traders as a group give that result: a Yes share at 63¢ means the market thinks the event is about 63% likely.

Nobody at Hypredict sets these prices. They come from the orders other traders place, and they move as news arrives and as people buy and sell.

Buying, selling and getting paid

When the market resolves, each share of the winning side pays out 1 USDC, which is $1, and each share of the losing side pays nothing.

  • If you are right. Buy 100 Yes shares at 63¢ and you pay $63. If the answer is Yes, they pay $100, a profit of $37.
  • If you are wrong. The same shares are worth nothing, and you lose the $63 you paid.
  • If you change your mind. You do not have to wait for the result. You can sell your shares at the current price at any time before the market closes, for a profit or a loss.

There are two ways to place an order:

  • Market order. Trades right away at the best prices available. In a market with few orders, the price you get can be worse than the price shown.
  • Limit order. You choose the price, and the order waits in the order book until someone trades against it. The balance or shares it needs are reserved until it fills or you cancel it.

How markets resolve

Each market has a description that states exactly what is being asked, when it ends, and which data decides the answer. Read it before you trade, because the result follows that wording and nothing else.

Markets are created and settled on Hyperliquid, not by Hypredict. When a market ends, Hyperliquid settles it and the payout is added to your balance automatically. You do not need to claim it.

Some markets repeat on a schedule, such as “BTC up or down in the next 15 minutes”. Each round is its own market: when one ends, the next one starts.

Where your money is

Hypredict is a front end for Hyperliquid. Your USDC and your shares sit in your own Hyperliquid account, which is controlled by your wallet.

  • Hypredict never holds your funds and cannot move, freeze or return them.
  • Your positions exist on Hyperliquid, so you can still reach them through Hyperliquid or another interface if Hypredict is unavailable.
  • You can sign in with a wallet you already have, or with another method, in which case Privy creates a wallet for you.

Enabling trading

Before your first order, the app asks you to enable trading. You sign once with your wallet, and after that orders go through without a signature prompt each time.

  • The app creates a separate trading key in your browser and stores it on your device in encrypted form. It is not sent to Hypredict.
  • Your signature approves that key on Hyperliquid for up to 180 days. After that, the app asks you to approve a new one.
  • The key can place and cancel orders. It cannot withdraw or transfer your funds.

The key lives in the browser you enabled trading in, so a new device or browser asks you to enable trading again.

Deposits and withdrawals

You trade with USDC. There are two ways to deposit:

  • From your wallet. Pay with any supported token on any supported chain. Relay converts it to USDC in your Hyperliquid account.
  • To a deposit address. Send crypto from another wallet or an exchange to a one-time address, and Privy bridges it into USDC in your Hyperliquid account.

You can withdraw your USDC at any time, to the chain and token you choose. The quote shows what you will receive before you confirm.

Check the address, network and amount before you confirm. A transfer sent to the wrong address or over the wrong network cannot be recovered.

Risks

You can lose everything you put into a trade: shares on the losing side are worth nothing. Prices can move quickly, and a quiet market may not let you sell at the price you want. Trade only with money you can afford to lose.
